I haven't posted any book reviews in a while. Sorry about that. I'm afraid to say that this blog is not going to be a book review, as you might have already realized from the title. I have decided to move my blog over to my tumblr, carolinenewmen.tumblr.com .I will continue where I left off on my tumblr blog. All though I have loved blogging here my tumblr blog has been much more successful- there I have over 200 followers and here only 10. I'm also going to start writing less in my reviews, only because they took so much time it took the fun out of writing them. So please come and join me on tumblr while I try to read 100 books this year.
I normally end my post bye saying "adieu", which is the French word for "farewell". But I'm not leaving you today, only moving with you. So let me say a bientôt. See you soon.

Excuses and Tests

No I have not forgoten about you all. I'm sorry I'm so behind on post but the last two weeks I have been very busy. It was spring break and this week i have 3 A.P. exams. not very fun. So basiclly all of spring break I have been studying. I also have to take the SAT this weekend so I have been studying for that too. once that is all over I'll get cauth up. I'm still reading so i have a ton of books to write about :)

Stars

As you guys know I rate all of the books I read from one star to five stars. The last blog I posted for book #13: Will Grayson, Will Grayson I gave it a score of four stars. Right after I posted that I went and looked at my blog for book #6: Looking for Alaska. I gave that book a score of three stars. 'But wait... You just said in your Will Grayson blog that you liked Looking for Alaska better than Will Grayson. Why would you give it a lower score?' you might be asking your self this right noe (you probably aren't, but just in case you are). I just wanted to tell you guys that I don't rate books compared to other books I have read like it's some big book contest. I rate them on what my expectations for the book where and if they meet, didn't meet, or exceeded them, if the book me feel anything/ changed me/ taught me something, and just how much I liked it. And my scale of stars changes everyday depending on my mood really. I just thought I would clear that up.

Book #13: Will Grayson, Will Grayson

Sorry I haven't posted in a while! I was just on vacation over my spring break (which ends tomorrow D: ) and didn't have a lot of free time, or access to a computer. But don't worry, I have still been reading a ton and have many books to tell you about! One of the books I recently finished is Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan.
Will Grayson, Will Grayson Summary: This book is about two boys, both named Will Grayson, who live completely different lives but fate finds themselves crossing each others path. This chance meeting extremity changes both of their lives.
My favorite things about the book: I'm a nerdfighter. I love John Green. He's amazing. So I really liked this book. John also wrote book #6: Looking for Alaska, which I thought was great. I really liked Will Grayson too but not as much. If you have read any of John's novels before than you know that he has this style he writes in. It's a witty, sarcastic, humorous but smart kind of style and I really like it. But John didn't write this book alone. You can really tell what parts John must have come up with and what parts David came up with. So I thought that was kinda cool.
I liked how when they switched between Will Graysons from chapter to chapter they changed the format of the writing so you could tell them apart. That was really helpful. And I love how fate brings these to people together and they end up helping each other. Both of the Will's are closed in people who separate them selves from the world. One who believes silence and not caring is golden and the other who the only person he has ever let in was someone who turned out to be fake. But by the end of the novel, because they meet, they end up changing their ways of going about life. I think that's just a great story.
Some things I didn't like about the book: The only thing I don't love about John's writing is that he does us swear words and borderline sexual content that I dint love. I'm basically saying his books are PG-13 if that makes any sence. I don't really mind this stuff but I don't really love it. I still think he's an amazing author. The only other thing I didn't love about this book was one part at the beginning that cut me close to the bone. That's all in going to say about that. My wounds haven't fully held yet. But that doesn't matter. It was still a great book.
Rating: I would give Will Grayson, Will Grayson a 4.0 out of 5 stars
Recommend it?: Yes, I thought it was very smart. Do read!

Sorry this blog is so over due. I've been very busy... reading... Angel. (blog on that next!)
Book #8: The Color Purple
Finished: February 14, 2011
So for school we had to chose a book to read and then write a research paper on. I chose The Color Purple by Alice Walker. We had a list of about 50 books to choose from but I've heard a lot about this book, and I knew it was also turned into a movie so I chose it. I normally don't like movies that were taken from great books, but having such a famous book and movie to work with for my paper I knew that there would be a ton of good sources for it. And I was right. So I had a great book with lots of outside info and a movie to go along with it, but I had no idea show powerful this book was.
The Color Purple summary: This book is about an African American girl named Celie's difficult life during the 1930's and 1940's because of racism. Her father raped her when she was a teenage and she was forced into a marriage with a man who loved her sister. The main portion of the book is about her marriage, the letters from her sister, and how Celie tries to find herself.
My favorite things about the book: This book is very depressing but at the same time very inspirational. The whole theme of the book is finding yourself and standing up for yourself. Celie over comes so much in this book, it's incredible. She finds out her husband, who loves her sister, has been hiding letters from her sister Nettie from her for over 20 years. But she is able to stand up to him and stop him. I loved how all the whole book is written in letters to God and back and forth between Celie and Nettie. I loved how Celie used the other women around her, Shug and Sofia, and uses their strength to find her own. And that really inspired me. Alice Walker wrote all about women rights and racism toward African American women. Over all it was a very sad (I cried during the first few pages) and inspiring read.
Some things I didn't like about the book: It took place in Georgia during the 1930s, and Celie was uneducated so she wrote the way that they talked. Sometimes it's hard to understand. The only other thing I didn't like about the book was that they didn't us quotation marks. That was hard to read at first but after a while you get used to it.
Rating: I would give The Color Purple 4.2 out of 5 stars
Recommend it?: Yes I would, but it's a heavy read. Mature readers only please.

Book #7: The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Finished: February 7, 2011
There are not a lot of kids at my little school who read, at least not in my grade. I'm a senior. Most of the readers are middle schoolers and freshmen. The two people who do read in my grade both love the book The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. They're both very indie kids, one boy and one girl, who don't wash their hair and wear vintage clothes. Nothing against them, they're both very nice, but our taste in books don't really match up. But they kept raving about this book. So I read it..
The Perks of Being a Wallflower Summary: It's about a boy, named Charlie, who writes letters to a person he doesn't know (the whole book is in letters) so he can have someone to talk to and vent about his life in his first year of high school. This summary is very short and there is a lot more to the book but it would take to long to explain it all.
Some things I didn't like about the book: When I started this book I didn't like it. At all. It was about a very emotional boy who's best friend killed him self, his favorite aunt died -on his birthday, and who had a pretty messed up family. That's not the part I didn't like. I didn't like how when he made new friends they turned him into a different person, and not in a good way. He started smoking cigarettes and pot, he started drinking, and learned a lot about sex. I didn't like that at all. And it was slow starting and confusing. I didn't get it. Who is he writing to, why is he so messed up, what made him that way. It made no sense. So i kept reading, and about half way though the book when his sister told him she was pregnant I started to like it...
My favorite things about the book: After the whole scene with his sister being pregnant it started to get better, and I started to really like it. One thing that I really liked about this book was how Charlie always spoke his mind. He told Sam he liked her from the start, and whatever else he thought he would say out loud. At the begging of the story I thought that Charlie was going to have a very dysfunctional family, but in they end you could see that they weren't. I really liked that.
Epilogue: So the epilogue of this book is very important. And I had to read it twice to understand what was going on. So all though out the book Charlie talked about his Aunt Helen who lived with them for a little while after she was molested by her fathers good friend. In his letters charlie always talked about how much he loved and missed his aunt. In the last letter before the epilogue letter Charlie writes how the day before his friend Sam left for college he kissed her. They started to get pretty physical but then Charlie stopped her and had a panic attack. The next letter he says that he's been in the hospital for the last two months, and all he remembers is a dream he had of him and Sam together, only it wasn't really Sam. It was his aunt Helen. In the epilogue we learn that his aunt molested him every Saturday. That's why he was sensitive and emotional, and why he panicked when things with Sam and himself got too heavy. That completely changed the book for me. Wow. I didn't see that one coming. Not at all. Sorry that I gave away the ending but I just had to put that out there.
Rating: I would give The Perks of Being a Wallflower a 4 out of 5 stars
Recommend it?: After I finished the book I felt really depressed and confused and kind of sick. It takes a lot for a book to do that to me, so for that reason alone I would say yes.

Book #6: Looking for Alaska

Good morning John it's Thursday.
If you're a fan of the vlogbrothers (Hank Green and John Green) on YouTube than you will know why I started my blog like that. Anyway I've been a fan, and a nerdfighter, for about a year now. This whole time I've been watching the vlogbrothers videos I've heard John talk about his book Looking for Alaska. I didn't read it right away because my school's librarian, who has read everything, told me she didn't like it- at all. And she knows books, and she knows when they're good and when they're bad. So I put off reading it for a little while, but final curiosity got the best of me and I read it. And let me say, its nothing like I thought it would be...
Looking for Alaska Summary: So this book is about a boy named Miles, later known as Pudge, who leaves Florida to go to a boarding school in alabama for his junior year of high school. At this new school he meets Alaska Young, and she changes his life forever...
My favorite thing about the book: There were a lot of things I like about this book. 1. I like thinking "haha that's such a John Green thing to say". 2. I loved Alaska's love for books, and the book and poetry references they used. 3. For the first half of the book they are counting down to something. And I being curious and having no self control looked ahead to see what they were counting down to. I couldn't figure it out. I skimmed and skimmed and skimmed, until I finally gave up and just read. Wow I didn't see this coming. I thought they were counting down to Alaska leaving, and then having Pudge go "looking for her". But no. They were counting down to Alaska's death. Did not see that coming. Congrats John, it takes a lot to pull something over my head like that. 4. I loved Alaska complicated, secret filled life. 5. I loved Pudge's essay at the end and how he figured the way out of the labyrinth.
Some things I didn't like about the book: I didn't like the huge drug, sex, and alcohol uses in the book. The one thing I didn't like about Alaska was her obsession with sex. And there was this one part in the book with Pudge and a girl named Lara that was very discussion and not needed. I mean really John? Why write that into your book, all it did was turn it from a PG-13 book to an R rated book. I can't even write about it here, i feel so dirty. But oh well, what can I do?
Rating: I would give Looking for Alaska 3 out of 5 stars
Recommend it?: Yes I would, to some.. Mature readers.. It really is a good story.

Sorry, I know it's been a few days. I finished my 5th book on Saturday and I was planing on writing my blog on Sunday. But on Sunday I got to see my cousin who is home from war so I didn't have time. He's leaving to go back tonight so if your a religious person than pray for him, if not then that's a-okayy. So anyway here is book #5!
Book #5: Heartsinger
Finished: January 29, 2011
Heartsinger by karlijn stoffels is my schools librarians favorite book and she basically forced me to read it. And I'm glad she did.
Heartsinger Summary: This book is about a boy, named Mee, who grew up with to death parents. Mee has this amazing singing voice that could make anyone happy, except his parents, because they are death. He feels he has failed them, and when they die he travels west to use his singing talent for good. Just by looking at someone he can see there whole life story. Though Mee's travels he sings at many funerals and we learn about their lives. Thoughout this book Mee learns who he really is. Along side the story of Mee there's another story of a girl name mitou who travels east to meet up with Mee. Fate brings them to one another and together they become heartsingers.
My favorite thing about the book:
This book is one of the best books I have ever read. There are only two books that I wish I could have written and this is one of them. It's truly beautifully written. With in the story there are other little stories and each little story is amazing. I love mitou's story of how she grew up to ugly words said by her parents and how eventually any noise at all sounds ugly. I love the story of the princess and how she would sit in front of a mirror and look at her self because when she was little her parents would never look at her or pay her any attention. I mean, come on, how does someone come up with stuff like that? It's fantastic. And the way it's written is just incredible. It was translated in to English so I think it being foreign might have to due with the way it sounds. And I love the ending, when Mee runs to meet mitou and sings as he goes. Beautiful.
Some things I didn't like about the book: The only thing I didn't like was that it was so short. I wish it was longer... oh well :)
Rating: I would give Heartsinger 5 out of five stars. (one of the only two books I would give a five)
Recommend it?: Absolutely yes. It's really unlike anything you have ever read. This is an amazing example of how a book can be good with out all of that teenage drama stuff mixed in.

Book #4: Witch & Wizard
Finished: January 19, 2011
One of my all time favorite book series is the Maximum Ride series by Mr. James Patterson. They are fantastic, and I definitely recommend them to anyone who has not read them. Of course right now I'm about to talk about Witch & Wizard by James Patterson, but don't worry, I garente that some time this year (most likely next month) I will re-read the Maximum Ride series and do a blog on them. Anyway back to Witch & Wizard. Seeing as how I love Mr. Patterson's Max Ride books, when I saw that he put out another book series meant for teens I was estatic. They were saying it was going to be the new Harry Potter (harrryy poootterrr<3) and I could not wait, but I never got around to buying the book. So finally when it was released in paperback about a month ago i bought it, but I had a long list of things to read before it so I put it off until about a week ago. And let me warn you now, it is NO maximum ride...
Witch & Wizard Summary: So there is this brother and sister, Whit and Wisty, and they are just living normal lives until one day they are captured and accused being a witch and a wizard. They don't know if they will ever see there parents again and no longer have any connection to the outside world. Now they need to escaped, find there parents, and figure out what is going on. But it's not as simple as it sounds...
Some things I didn't like about the book:
Okay so this book kinda disappointed me. It was just... disappointing. I had very high expectations for it because of maximum ride and how amazing they are, but this book just didn't work. Like in maximum ride the charters are very sarcastic, but here it doesn't work. I couldn't connect with the characters, it started veryyy slowly too. I mean I was a good idea for a book and I think it had the potential to be great, only if it was a different author and not James. Of course he did have a co-writer for this book... Let's just blame it on him ;)
My favorite thing about the book: It wasn't all bad; It did have some very good qualities to it. I loved the idea of the shadowland and the black shadow creatures who live there. And I liked the people they stayed with in the free world. I liked how the New Orders sign was N.O. (haha), and of course I loved how they could do magic; how Wisty could burst in to flames, float, glow, etc. Very cool, I'm very jealous. And there was a small Maximum Ride reference in the book that just made it ten times better! They said something like "Maybe I'll grow wings and learn how to fly." "Yah flying kids, like THAT would ever happen" ^•^ hahahaha
Rating: I would give Witch & Wizard a 2.9 out of five stars.
Recommend it?: eh, only if you are a huge JP fan then maybe.. But who knows maybe you will love it :)

Book #3: Fallen

Have you ever walked into a book store, looked at a book, and went "Wow that looks stupid, or that looks ready bad"? Well I'm sure you have, and I have too. And one of those books was Fallen by Lauren Kate. When I saw it i didn't give it a second look. But one day I went into my school library and the librarian took my arm and said "I have the perfect book for you". She dragged me over to the new book section and picked up Fallen. The whole time she was checking the book our for me I was thinking 'Noooo, I don't want to read this, it looks so bad', but I knew I had to read it because she would want to hear all about what I thought of it ( I'm one of the only kids who comes in to actually check out books). So I read it. Have you ever heard the saying 'Don't judge a book by it's cover'? There has never been a statement more true.
Fallen Summary: This book is about a 17 year old girl name Luce, who is sent away to this boarding school full of messed up and troubled kids where you have no connection to the outside world except for one phone call a week. At this school is where she meets Daniel, a boy who clearly wants nothing to do with her but she can't help but feel she already knows him...
My favorite thing about the book: Okay so the truth is... I loved this book. It was fantastic! I loved the setting; the school, graveyard, hidden lake, and angel statutes. I loved Cam, but hated him at the same time. I like the description of his green eyes. But I loved Daniel more, and how he kept slipping up on secrets of the past. I loved the description of Luce and Daniel's kiss. And I just loved the whole idea of the novel; secret pasts and fallen angels. And the ending, it makes you need to read the next book.
Rating: I would give Fallen a 4.6 out of five stars.
Recommend it?: Oh my gosh yes! Read this book now!

Book #2

Book #2: Shiver
Finished: January 13, 2011
So the second book I read this year is one I have been wanting to read for a very long time. The book club I'm in at my school (which only has four kids in it including me) was planing to read shiver by maggie stiefvater some time last year. So I decided I would wait until we all read it together instead of going out and buying it myself and reading it. So I waited and waited and waited... We never read it -.- So finally I couldn't wait any longer and I read it.
Shiver Summary: There's this girl named Grace who lives in a town on the outskirts of some woods. In those woods live wolves- werewolves. They only become human when it's warm out, like in the summer, and become wolves when it is cold out, like in the winter, and every year they have less and less time to be human. Grace was attacked by the wolves when she was very little, but one wolf, Sam, saved her. Ever since then they have been watching each other and this book tells the story of what happens when Grace meets Sam as a human. This is Sam's last year of being a human and Grace isn't ready to let him go.
My favorite thing about the book: I love Sam's back story about how he became a wolf and what his parents did to him, and I love how they bring that up at different parts if the book. I could really connect with Grace, with her being a quite girl who loves reading in a town where she doesn't fit in. I loved the ending, slight cliff hanger ;) and I loved the reference to poetry and Sam's life being in song lyrics. Very creative. I'm very excited to read the next two in the series.
Some things I didn't like about the book: I didn't like how after, what 2?, weeks of Grace knowing Sam as a human they slept together. I mean I know Grace thought she was about to lose him forever but I think maggie stiefvater should have wait until the next book, or book after to have that happen seeing how it is a trilogy. But of course the rules of love are different when you're dealing with one human and one fictional creature. I like Sam's take on what happened and how he thought she did it to get back at here parents. Makes you think a little. Other than that I loved the book.
Rating: I would give shiver a 4.2 out of five stars.
Recommend it?: If you like fantasy love stories than yes :)!

Book #1

As you can see I'm a little behind with starting this blog, but even though I started so late into January I'm still going to include the 4 books I have already read this year. So I thought I would start off with a teenage classic to get the ball rolling.
Book #1: Twilight
Finished: January 9, 2011
The first book I read this year was Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. And no this was not my first time reading this book. It was my ... 5th?
I am a huge fan of the Twilight saga books. The movies- not so much. The
movies do not do the books justice. I think the people they cast were all wrong, the way they changed the plot was wrong, the cullens house was wrong, the school was wrong, everything was wrong. But this blog is not here for my to complain about bad movies, it's here so I can talk about wonderful books. And twilight is a wonderful book.
Twilight Summary: I'm guessing most people know what twilight is about but for those few people who have been living under a rock the last five years... twilight is a novel about a girl named Bella who moves to Forks, Washington and meets the love of her life, Edward. There's only one problem- he's a vampire.
My favorite thing about the book: What's not to like? It has love, secrets, revenge, action, vampires, and on top of all of that Bella tries to figure out who she is and where she belongs. I like how in a lot if ways (besides the vampire love part) I can relate this book and the way Bella feels to my life. Parents divorced, going to a new school, trying to fit in, that kind if thing. Edward and Bella are perfect together. I love all of the different characters in the book and all of there different personalities. Jasper and Alice are adorable together, and my favorite characters. Hmm.. I think that's all of my favorite things from the book. I don't have a ton to say for this book because in guessing everyone knows it. Over all it is a great read that will make you not want to put it down. And if you don't feel like reading it YouTube Alex Day reads Twilight. Team Edward or Team Jacob? : I known right now that's the only thing you really want to know ;). And the truth is I am proudly Team Edward. So sorry all you Tayl- I mean Jacob fans, but Jacob is an annoying, clumsy, huge, long haired dog boy and I see nothing attractive in that. Edward on the other hand...

Hello blog readers^•^
My name is Caroline, but feel free to think of me as Cara (everyone else does). For the longest time I've been wanting to start this blog but never really knew how. It's unbelievably hard for me not to dive right in to everything I want to write about here but that's not fair to you. I'm sure right now you are starting to wonder "who us this blogger and why am I reading this" so here's my answer to that.
Like I was saying I didn't know how to start this blog. In a huge fan of vlogs on YouTube and at first I really wanted to do that. That is however, until is heard what I sounded like when I am recorded. Let's just say I'm positive you would rather go though the pain of reading my words than listening to them. You're welcome.
To answer why you are reading this, well I hope it's because you like reading books. Reading is my sport, my passion, my... Everything. I get though the day by thinking about reading the next chapter in a book, or waiting for the next novel in a series to come out. And when you live in a small messed up town like I do than you need something to get you though the day. I'm glad that I found reading before something else. Most kids at my school don't read- they us drugs and drink. So the main reason I made this blog is so that I can have someone to talk to about books and expressly opinion. I also can't wait to find out other peoples opinion on books they like. I don't care if I get one view or one hundred views, it won't matter. I'm just glad that I have someone to share my passion with.
Not only did I want to talk with my fellow teen book readers of the world but I also wanted to make some changes. My few friend who do read only read a very small among of books that are normally on the same topics. And those topics would be sex, lust, and drugs. I want to try change that and show teens that books can be amazing even when not surrounded by those topics. I want to open everyone- and you- to a world of books that are just purely amazing. And yes some books are still good and have sex and drugs in them, but not all have to.
So what am I even going to write about here in my blog? Well in glad you asked. Last year I read 100 books and this year I want to do that again, only I want to document it here instead if my notebook. When I finish a book I will tell you my reaction to it, what I liked, didn't like, favorite character, and things like that. I'll also through out this year tell you about some books ive read in the past that I recommend, and some that I don't recommend.
So I hope you follow me as I take this challenge and stick around long enough to see if I can read 100 books again. To save you from doing the math, I need to read 8 books a month, which means about 2 books a week. I know, I'm crazy. But other than school and work I have no life here in the "town of friendly people". I should have two blogs a week.

And when you live in a small messed up town like I do than you need something to get you though the day. I'm glad that I found reading before something else. Most kids at my school don't read- they us drugs and drink. So the main reason I made this blog is so that I can have someone to talk to about books and expressly opinion. I also can't wait to find out other peoples opinion on books they like. I don't care if I get one view or one hundred views, it won't matter. I'm just glad that I have someone to share my passion with.
Not only did I want to talk with my fellow teen book readers of the world but I also wanted to make some changes. My few friend who do read only read a very small among of books that are normally on the same topics. And those topics would be sex, lust, and drugs. I want to try change that and show teens that books can be amazing even when not surrounded by those topics. I want to open everyone- and you- to a world of books that are just purely amazing. And yes some books are still good and have sex and drugs in them, but not all have to.
So what am I even going to write about here in my blog? Well in glad you asked. Last year I read 100 books and this year I want to do that again, only I want to document it here instead if my notebook. When I finish a book I will tell you my reaction to it, what I liked, didn't like, favorite character, and things like that. I'll also through out this year tell you about some books ive read in the past that I recommend, and some that I don't recommend.
So I hope you follow me as I take this challenge and stick around long enough to see if I can read 100 books again. To save you from doing the math, I need to read 8 books a month, which means about 2 books a week. I know, I'm crazy. But other than school and work I have no life here in the "town of friendly people". I should have two blogs a week.
